Brooklyn Abbott

Program Coordinator, Child Nutrition Programs

Brooklyn coordinates the Operation Backpack program, which serves 8,000 children each weekend. Her responsibilities include recruiting schools to participate in Operation Backpack, coordinating volunteer opportunities, and communicating with school coordinators.

Previously working in the hospital setting, Brooklyn became interested in prevention and social determinants of health. In 2017, she obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Mizzou. Through the innovative programs at Operation Food Search, Brooklyn works to break down the barriers that lead to food insecurity in the St. Louis region.

From Brooklyn: I chose a career in public health because I wanted to work to solve public health issues, not just treat the symptoms. At Operation Food Search, we are always researching and implementing new and innovative ways to stop the cycle of hunger, not only in our community, but across the United States. It is truly a privilege to be part of a team that is helping to make a change.

In her spare time, Brooklyn enjoys traveling and spending time outside with her two dogs Jack and Lucy.
