SUMMER MEALS AND BEYOND
How we’re working to solve summer hunger
Every summer, too many children have to worry about where they will get their next meal. School break means kids miss ten meals a week.
This summer is even more challenging. It will take new solutions and additional resources. We are planning to serve 300,000 summer meals this year—more than three times what we served last summer.
In fact, we essentially began our Summer Meals Program in April, when schools closed due to the pandemic. But now we’re tackling summer hunger with innovative approaches and added resolve. Our adapted service began June 1 and focuses on rural partnerships, grab ‘n go meal sites, drive-through distribution events, and mobile meal routes.
Keep an eye out for more details in the weeks to come. We’ll be sharing more stories from the Front Line as we focus on strengthening our children. . . because our future depends on all of us.
