OFS Partners with the Kaufman Fund to Help Vets

Joining Forces to Fight Food Insecurity

Operation Food Search and the Kaufman Fund held the third annual Food for Vets at our location just before Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers distributed the fixings for a Memorial Day barbecue, as well as additional food for the family for 7-10 days. OFS also helped connect veterans to nutrition resources that can be utilized year round.

“No one who has served our country should struggle with food insecurity, but that is the reality for many of our veterans,” said OFS President & CEO Kristen Wild. “We are pleased to once again partner with The Kaufman Fund to help our heroes receive the nutrition and assistance they need to live healthy lives.”

Feeding America reports that:
·  1 in 9 working-age veterans live in food-insecure households.
·  24% of active duty service members were food insecure in 2020.
·  1.2 million low-income veterans use SNAP benefits.

Nearly 200 veterans and their families received free boxes of food containing healthy, fresh produce, shelf-stable items, and meat.

“We have listened to our veteran clients and are responding with the items they’ve requested,” said Wild. “We appreciate The Kaufman Fund for being such wonderful, multi-year partners in this work.”
