Volunteer for Our Nutrition Education Program!

Volunteers are essential to our nutrition education program's success.  Please read the brief descriptions of opportunities, and if you're interested in volunteering, fill out the form below.

Health Fairs:  Volunteers are asked to oversee a booth for Operation Food Search throughout the duration of a health fair, pass out nutrition-related brochures and pamphlets, and discuss a variety of different nutrition and culinary related topics with health fair participants.  A background in a nutrition and/or culinary-related field is beneficial.  Volunteers must also  be personable and comfortable talking to the public.

Nutrition Instructors:  Each of our Cooking Matters classes is taught by a qualified nutrition instructor.  A qualified nutrition instructor is someone who is a registered dietitian, an upper-classman dietetics student, a dietetic intern, or someone with a similar nutrition background.  A qualified volunteer should also be comfortable with public speeking.  Volunteers must be able to commit to attending all six class sessions and should expect to spend three hours per week at class.

Culinary Instructors:  Each of our Cooking Matters classes is taught by a qualified culinary instructor - someone who has been formally trained as a chef, a person with a culinary background working in the foodservice industry (e.g. restaurant, institutional foodservice), or someone with a similar culinary background (e.g. a well-experienced home cook).  A qualified volunteer should also be comfortable with public speaking.  Volunteers must be able to commit to attending all six class sessions and should expect to spend three hours per week at class.

Class Assistant:  Even if you are not a nutritionist or chef, we still need your help!  We always need extra hands at our Cooking Matters classes assisting our instructors and class participants in preparing the meals and leading the lessons.  Class Assistants should feel comfortable with public speaking.

General Volunteer:  Can't commit to an entire Cooking Matters class?  We still need your help!  We're always looking for help preparing for classes here in our office.

Calendar: For a list of current volunteer openings for Cooking Matters classes, please see the Cooking Matters Course Schedule.
