MEET CARDINAL PLAYERS AT OPERATION FOOD SEARCH’S SECOND ANNUAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DAY
ON FRIDAY, JUNE 3
ST. LOUIS, May 26, 2011 -- Adam Wainwright, David Freese, John Jay, and Daniel Descalso from the St. Louis Cardinals will sign autographs and ‘pitch’ chocolate chip cookies for fans at the ninth annual Chocolate Chip Cookie Day hosted by Operation Food Search (OFS) on Friday, June 3 at Mike Shannon’s Steaks and Seafood Restaurant, 620 Market Street downtown. Proceeds from the event will benefit Operation Food Search to help feed the area hungry.
From 11:30 am until 1:00 p.m. Cardinals athletic trainer Barry Weinberg and several players will sign autographs and sell chocolate chip cookies donated by Schnuck Markets. Several other items will be auctioned off, including autographed collectables and tickets to a Cardinals baseball game that will include an inning in the KMOX radio booth with Cardinals announcers Mike Shannon and John Rooney.
"Last year’s event was a wonderful success and lots of fun for everyone involved," said OFS executive director Sunny Schaefer. "We’re looking forward to the active participation of a number of Cardinals players and representatives to once again help raise funds to help feed hungry people in our metropolitan community."
Operation Food Search distributes nearly 2 million pounds of food each month, but more needs to be done. Please join the Cardinals to help feed the area poor.
Operation Food Search is a local, non-profit organization that provides emergency food to the area poor. The lingering effects of the Great Recession that began at the end of 2007 and increasing gasoline, utility and food prices have contributed to an overwhelming increase in the number of working families who are turning to food pantries for help. Area pantries have experienced anywhere from a 20 percent to 30 percent increase in the number of people coming to them for food assistance.
Operation Food Search was established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger and has since become one of the largest distributors of free food in the bi-state area. The organization distributes more than 2 million pounds of food and household items to 250 community partner agencies which in turn feed 130,000 poor people each month, nearly half of whom are children.
