Hunger in St. Louis

Hunger is all around us, and often times affects many more than you would expect. Hunger reaches beyond the homeless and beyond the soup-kitchen lines - it now even affects thousands who were recently living comfortably in the middle-class.

Lay-offs, foreclosures, unexpected medical expenses, and a troubled economy have all created a 30% increase in demand on our services.

Approximately 411,000 children in Missouri benefit from SNAP (food stamps); more than 758,000 children in Illinois benefit from SNAP.

Our agencies served 2 million people in the City of St. Louis and 30 counties in Missouri and Illinois through food pantries and soup kitchens in the past year.
